Application layer: The application layer is the central component of the SAP ERP system and is therefore also referred to as the base system. All applications and calculations are executed here. For example, SAP R/3 Plug-In Support Package 10 for SAP Plug-In 2004.1 requires SAP Basis Plug-In 2005.1.
